One of the highlights of Record Store Day for me is the release of Simon Goddard’s latest musical tome. Following on from two books on the The Smiths – Songs That Saved Your Life – The Art of The Smiths 1982-1987 and Mozipedia: The Encyclopaedia of Morrissey and The Smiths – and the excellent Ziggyology comes a long overdue look at the influential, if somewhat short-lived, life of Postcard Records. Simply Thrilled: The Preposterous Story of Postcard Records (Ebury Press) will be launched in Glasgow on Friday at an invite-only book launch before it’s official release on Saturday 19 April 2014 as part of Record Store Day.

You can catch a Q&A between Simon and Ian Rankin at noon on Saturday at The Antiquary – just along from VoxBox Music – on St Stephen Street in Edinburgh and on Sunday at Hyndland Books (143 Hyndland Road, Glasgow  G12 9JA)  from 2pm when journalist and writer Sylvia Patterson will be on hosting duties.

A free Postcard map picture will be available at a number Scottish outlets (only) including Monorail, Trongate 103, Waterstone’s (both branches) and HMV in Glasgow. In the capital you should be able to pick it up at VoxBox Music and HMV (Princes Street).

Also available as a Kindle eBook.
